Myrtle Beach in South Carolina is one of the most beautiful beaches to photograph both for nature as well as people. However, to get the right images, you would need to find the right places.
There are quite a few Myrtle Beach Resorts that we have evaluated. The Cherry Grove Pier is one of the most popular spots on the beach & the Prince Resort is right on the entrance of the pier.
The fishing pier in Cherry Grove is a popular place for beach travel photography. It bustles with families, many of them tourists, as well as the locals who come in for regular line fishing.
If you spend long enough time you will get to know some of the regular fishermen, who do it more as a sport. Some would even bear with the cameras & the flashes to pose for a shot while then wheel in their catch.
Although there are numerous Myrtle Beach Accomodations, having to stay close to the pier has its own advantages. You could be there early in the morning when only a handful of people would be fishing.
They usually do not like to be disturbed, but if you request their photographs with their catch, they usually oblige. There would be tourists during the entire day & many will fish just for fun. You should not be surprised if they do not land a single fish during the whole day!
Myrtle Beach Resort provides condos & dining facilities. The rooms with beach front view could be another very popular travel photography topic, although they would be no more than average travel photography shots.
While the fishing pier gives good opportunities for people & beach photography, a walk along the marshlands would give you the chance to photograph colorful wood ducks & other small marsh reptiles.
While photographing ducks & other water birds, you have to plan for a long time & carry the usual bird photography gear – a tripod or a small 5 lb sandbag is a must. Wood ducks are usually skittish & you can do with some cover or camouflage.
