I cleaned up my Hasselblad 500 C/M which has been lying around all this time I was shooting my photography projects with my Nikon digital. I still had a few gates of Kodak Professional Portra 400 Color Negative 120 Roll Film left from the last shoot, so in no time I was out in the yard shooting again.
I still have a whole box of Kodak Portra 400 120 film, Ilford HP5 Plus Black and White Negative 120 Roll Film and Kodak Professional Tri-X 400 Black and White Negative 120 Roll Film ready to be shot.
I usually buy most of my film online from BH Photo Video and also use their film developing and high resolution scanning services. When I decide to print any gate, I get them rescanned and cleaned up as a TIFF file that I can print in my home digital lab.
Hasselblad 500 C/M 120 Film
I like the sort of soft & subtle look and feel of the Kodak Professional Portra 400 Color Negative 120 Roll Film compared to the TriX especially because I am shooting more candid portraits with my Hasselblad 500 C/M. However, the challenge with me remains with the developing of the film – when you are not doing it yourself, you miss out on the small things you would do to the film while the chemicals are still on the tray!
Hasselblad 500 C/M Digital
I have been thinking for a while to continue to use the Hasselblad 500 C/M more frequently and looking to find a digital back. The Phase One 25P Digital Back works fine in most cases but some of my colleagues who have done a lot of experiments with the combination tells me that there could be occasional issues with the focusing system when the digital back does not line up perfectly with the focal plane. While it works on most cases, there is always this possibility and always that element of luck with what I buy online.
If I can find an acceptable digital back, I would be using the Hasselblad more regularly for my Street Photography & portrait projects compared to the Nikon digital. If you are aware of anyone willing to part with their pre-owned Phase One 25P V mount digital back, be sure to send me an email or leave a message with me.
