Pico Iyer’s book have a strange effect on me. His travel writings inspire me on one hand, urging me to get out, get around and absorb life, while on the other hand, anytime I start reading one of Pico Iyer’s travel books, I fall asleep very quickly. They almost soothe me to the point where I get lost in his lucid language, the “Say it as you see it” style of articulation & the subtle humor that he observes in everyday life.
Falling off the Map is another of Pico Iyer’s must read travelogue. Pico loves remoteness, quietness and isolated places, mostly psychological and economic isolation from the apparently active & busy life.
This book in particular almost summarizes his experiences & his overall love for such unique destinations & recounts experiences from Iceland, Paraguay, Vietnam, Argentina, Bhutan, Patagonia, Saigon, Cuba and Australia.
