Memphis witnessed hundreds of years of history from the original native Indians, through the growth of the city as the cotton capital of US to the later days of the fights against racial discrimination and unbound slavery. In the recent past decades, Memphis has been the musical home of rock-and-roll, the jazz and the blues.
The city walls of Memphis bears some of these historical evidences in the form of street arts & murals. Although the areas around downtown Memphis has been in disarray due to lack of business, financial crisis and a general decline in the prosperity of the communities, there are fresh murals that pop up in these isolated corners of Memphis from time to time.
Most of these murals were photographed around the Front Street in downtown Memphis. The Beale Street, which can be considered as the heart of Memphis has a lot of mural sites as well, but I decided to photograph the areas that are often ignored by the tourists.
