Ogunquit is a small quiet, very photogenic location in South Maine. The name means “beautiful place by the sea”. The Ogunquit Beach, a long, sandy peninsula with grassy dunes, lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ogunquit River. A great view of the rocky coastline comes along the Marginal Way, a cliff walk with coastal views.
This small town sees a lot of visitors in Summer, with nights ending in dances and live music. This picture above is taken after sunset, on the Marginal way. You can walk down at low tide, however the rocks are extremely slippery and the floor is very rugged, so could be risky to walk on these during high tides.
There is also the little known Ogunquit Museum of American Art, known for its waterside sculptures and works by local Maine artists, supporting the local art community. In and around what could be the center of Ogunquit are numerous coves, like the Fish Cove & Perkins Cove. Most of these locations would be quiet empty in non-tourist seasons like winter, making it easy for photographers to get to some very beautiful corners and rocks.
