This is my first time in American mid-south. Having spent over 20 years in either coast and in some of the biggest metro cities of US, the mid-south appeared to be very different, in many ways.
Having spent most of my time in New England and my last home in Charlotte, North Carolina. The beautiful Queen City was within 2 hours drive of the Atlantic coast on the East and the Blue Ridge Smokey Mountains and the Cherokee Mountains on the West. There was abundance of ocean, mountains, rivers and waterfalls.
Being more than 2 hours drive in any direction from any mountains or waterfalls of any sort, I decided to try out something different – photograph the huge, vast, desolate, overwhelmingly silent cotton fields. They are abundant in the region around Memphis.
This picture is done around 5:30 AM CST when the sun rays just grazed the horizon, shining through the mist and fog and slowly sparkling the dew on the cotton buds. This is sort of a long exposure, having exposed for about 8- 10 seconds. I had to use aa 3 stop hard ND filter to contain the exposure latitude. The panorama was done by stitching 4 – 5 images in Lightroom while processing the RAW files.
Since this image, I have started taking these early morning drives more often. I have discovered beautiful back country, back roads and some amazing trees, which I will post over time.
